Short courses

Using intensive working sessions and activities, these courses are designed to update and deepen your knowledge on governance issues, board practice and the roles and responsibilities of directors. The courses take either a half or full day and are tailored to senior executives, managers and directors of all experience levels.

Upcoming courses include Reporting to the Board in Melbourne on 19 July, Applied Risk Governance in Sydney on 20 July, The Role of the Chair in Brisbane on 24 July, Boardroom Financial Acumen in Hobart on 9 August and The Board and the Company Secretary in Perth on 15 August.

Brisbane member lounge open

The Business Centre and Member Lounge in our new Brisbane office is now open. Exclusively for members and their guests, our lounges are spaces where you are invited to work, hold meetings or unwind. Make use of complimentary wifi and enjoy a tea or coffee while you work or relax. For private meetings, we provide a variety of rooms that can be hired on an hourly, half-day or whole-day basis.

The new Brisbane lounge and office is located at Level 9, Riverside Centre, 123 Eagle Street, Brisbane.

Audit committees: A guide to good practice

An independent audit committee is a fundamental component of good corporate governance. The Auditing and Assurance Standards Board, the AICD and The Institute of Internal Auditors – Australia have come together once more to create the third edition of Audit Committees: A guide to good practice.

A practical introduction to the role and responsibilities of an audit committee, the guide explains the context in which an audit committee typically operates. This new edition reflects developments in audit committee practice, legislation and guidance from regulatory bodies and in leading global board practices.

Primarily designed for directors and audit committees of Australian listed companies, directors and audit committees of not-for-profit, public sector and other private sector entities may also find this guide a useful reference.

AICD’s NFP offerings

Not-for-profit organisations (NFPs) operate within a complex governance environment, with unique challenges and distinct regulatory frameworks. Over the coming months, the AICD will offer a series of courses and events around the country that have been specially tailored to meet the needs of NFP directors and senior executives.

Directors’ Briefings will focus on creating skill-based boards and the board’s role in driving strategy, and in July, NSW members can attend a Director Recruitment Evening designed to expand networks and open doors to available board positions.

Two short courses, Foundations of NFP Governance and Advanced NFP Governance will also be held around the country, offering NFP directors, aspiring directors and experienced directors the opportunity to consolidate and refine their skills.
