The Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD) is constantly updating its webinar series so that our members can continue their professional development with the latest knowledge they need to perform at the highest level in their roles. Our webinars, which last between 30 and 90 minutes, provide a flexible way for directors to stay fresh in their governance knowledge, and are easily and readily available wherever there is an internet connection.

The on demand webinar offerings, several of which are complimentary for members, cover all facets of directorship, including the role of the board, strategy and risk, overseeing information technology and reporting.

Among the complimentary webinars are the Essential Director Update, the AICD’s annual overview of the changing governance regulatory and legislative environment in which directors operate, the International Essential Director Update, which provides the same for directors working across international borders, and The Role of the Not-for-Profit Director, an introductory session on the duties and responsibilities of directors in the not-for-profit sector.

    International courses

Throughout 2017 the AICD will hold courses for senior executives and directors working outside of Australia. Hosted in Shanghai, Singapore and Hong Kong, our International Company Directors Course explores the practice of international directorship and the role of the director as a leader of an organisation. In addition to traditional Company Directors Course content, the course examines the role of the board in the international context, the international legal environment and director’s duties and responsibilities in an international context.

A second program, Mastering the Boardroom, is the capstone of the AICD’s directorship pathway and will be held in Singapore in May. Mastering the Boardroom provides leading directors the opportunity to consolidate governance and directorship knowledge, join with similarly experienced directors to consider best practice, and be challenged in a unique environment.

    Self-assessment tool

The AICD’s Self-Assessment Tool is an organisational tool that enables current and aspiring directors to self-assess their governance capabilities. By providing insights into strengths and areas for development, it empowers governance experts to focus their professional development.

The online assessment only takes 20 minutes and can be completed at any time, anywhere and on any device. The recently refreshed tool provides respondents with a real-time, individual report. This report also suggests a comprehensive learning pathway tailored by sector.

Respondents are able to compare their self-assessed scores against those of peers in their sector. Once completed, respondents can elect to discuss their report in a personalised career conversation with an AICD executive.
