Sarah Merridew FAICD 2020 Tasmanian Gold Medal Award Winner

Prominent Launceston businesswoman, Sarah Merridew FAICD, has won the prestigious 2020 Tasmanian Australian Institute of Company Director’s Gold Medal Award for her commitment to excellence in corporate governance.

This annual award is presented to an outstanding Tasmanian director for upholding good corporate governance and high ethical standards in their personal, business and public life, and in recognition of their outstanding efforts as a company director and citizen of Tasmania.

Formerly a partner of Deloitte, Sarah Merridew has worked in listed, public sector, not-for-profit and community organisations. Mrs Merridew is a Chartered Accountant and an experienced company director with expertise in audit, risk management, governance and business advisory services.

At present, Mrs Merridew is a non-executive director at energy company, TasNetworks, as well as a director of the Merridew Foundation and the Supported Affordable Accommodation Trust.

Previously, Mrs Merridew was on the boards of TasRail, TasWater, Tasmanian Water and Sewerage Corporations (Southern Water, Ben Lomond Water, Cradle Mountain Water and Onstream), Tasmanian Perpetual Trustees, Tasmanian Banking Services, Tasmanian Public Finance Corporation (TASCORP) and the Royal Flying Doctor Service Tasmania.

Tasmanian/Victorian State Manager, Evan Dukas MAICD, said Mrs Merridew has made a significant contribution to the business and wider community in the state.

“Sarah has brought her experience and capability to many Tasmanian boardrooms and important community causes. She is an ideal and worthy recipient of the Tasmanian Gold Medal,” Mr Dukas said.

Mrs Merridew said it was a privilege to receive such an award from her peers.

“I am very fortunate to have worked with a number of Tasmanian organisations across a broad range of industries. The importance of good corporate governance has always been at the forefront of my approach to directorships, with a strong emphasis on effective structures, policies and processes, rather than a bureaucratic approach.”

The 2020 Tasmanian Gold Medal Awards lunch is being held today, 19 March 2021, as last year’s event was postponed due to COVID-19 and will be presented by Her Excellency Professor the Honourable Kate Warner, AC, Governor of Tasmania.
