AICD NFP scholarship applications open today

The Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD) has today opened applications for its governance scholarship for leaders of small not-for-profit organisations.


Following the selection process, 130 recipients will attend the AICD’s highly regarded Governance Foundations for Not-for-Profit Directors course next year.

Individuals from charities or NFPs with an annual turnover of less than $2 million are encouraged to apply.

Since 2017, the scholarship program has provided in excess of $500,000 in training to more than 350 aspiring and current not-for-profit directors.

To be eligible to apply, applicants must be Australian citizens or Australian permanent residents who fit one of the following categories:

  • currently employed as an executive of a charity or not-for-profit organisation;
  • a current non-executive director on the board of a charity or not-for-profit organisation; or
  • an aspiring non-executive director who may work in the NFP sector or seek to in the near future.

Last year’s scholarship winners were from a wide variety of sectors including sport, the arts, regional community groups and tourism as well as disability, veterans, homelessness, health and child care services.

The scholarships form part of the AICD’s strong commitment to the NFP sector, by assisting organisations to increase their own governance capabilities and maximise their resources to better assist the communities they service.

NFP board directors make up the largest proportion of our organisation’s membership, and I’m proud that we can continue to support NFP leaders improve the governance of their organisation through these scholarships and other free resources.
