Prime Minister Scott Morrison and Treasurer Josh Frydenberg have announced a plan “targeted at building on this digital transformation of Australian businesses to drive productivity and income growth and create jobs”.

In July, the AICD welcomed the Treasurer’s six-month extension of the temporary relief measure allowing for virtual AGMs and e-signatures until 21 March 2021. The AICD is part of a coalition of business groups advocating for the move to a digital economy.

AICD Managing Director and CEO, Angus Armour, said, “We are very pleased to hear that the Government will consult on making these measures permanent.

“To accelerate Australia’s economic recovery, it’s vital that our laws reflect the modernisations embraced by organisations during the COVID-19 period. These include laws around virtual AGMs and electronic documents.

“The AICD is looking forward to being part of the discussion on permanent reform.”
