Phil Butler GAICD

Phil Butler GAICD

Sector Leader, Not-for-Profit, AICD

Phil Butler is the Not For Profit Sector Leader for the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD) based in Canberra.

In this role, Phil has worked closely with Boards, CEO’s and Directors of organisations in Public and Not for Profit sectors.

Since 2011, he has led the Not for Profit Project for AICD. This project is designed to support organisations in the NFP sector to achieve their respective missions through ongoing improvements in governance and to build greater awareness of the contribution of NFP directors and support their ongoing professional development. Examples of this work include the Good Governance Principles and Guidance for NFP Organisations and the annual NFP Governance and Performance Study.

Phil is a Graduate of the Company Directors Course and a member of CPA Australia. He has been on a range of boards of NFP and Government organisations and recently stepped down as a Director of Alzheimer’s Australia ACT.

Ruth Faulkner GAICD

Non-Exective Director, NEAMI
Ruth is an experienced business consultant and chartered accountant with extensive experience working with small business owners, CEOs and boards. She is co-founder of a boutique management consultancy practice in Far North Queensland where she specialises in strategic development, financial analysis, financial management, mentoring and business planning. Ruth is a Non-Executive Director for the Neami Group, a national community-based mental health service provider that supports people to improve their wellbeing, live independently and pursue a fulfilling life. Ruth is also an independent member of several audit and risk committees both locally and nationally.

Dr Keith Noble FAICD

Chair, Terrain NRM
Raised in Brisbane, Keith fell in love with FNQ. After working throughout regional Australia, Keith farmed tropical fruit near Tully, established a central packing shed and grower-owned company exporting fruit to Japan before cyclone Yasi destroyed the industry. To make sense of this, Keith undertook doctoral research into farmer’s resilience. He is a Rural Planner and partner in Insideout Architects, Chairs Terrain NRM and the NQ NRM Alliance, and is committed to the appropriate development of Northern Australia. His book, “Agriculture and Resilience in Australia’s North” is available now from Springer Nature. Ask Keith about PechaKucha.
2019 marks the tenth edition of this hallmark NFP study and this year’s event will bring to life the key highlights from the findings.

AICD’s Not-for-Profit Governance and Performance Study is the largest and most in-depth research of its kind in Australia. This year’s event will bring to life the contemporary issues impacting the NFP sector.

The AICD’s NFP Sector Leader, Phil Butler GAICD, will report on the key findings of the study before joining a panel of sector leaders to explore the issues in more detail including how recent Royal Commissions are impacting not-for-profit organisations and in particular the increased expectations on directors. Panellists will also look at how the sector has changed over the last decade, fundamental questions about the future of the sector, new challenges on the horizon, and issues impacting sporting organisations - many of which are applicable across sectors.
