Participants must be graduates of the Company Directors Course or International Company Directors Course and should ideally have no less than three years of board experience.

Suitable for:

  • Graduates of the Company Directors Course (mandatory requirement)
  • Directors on boards of complex companies that may, for time to time, experience financial pressures and therefore require directors to be vigilant around the solvency of the business
  • Chief Executive Officers / Managing Directors
  • Chief Financial Officers

What will you learn?

After completing the highly focused and practical course, you will have the tools to be confident in your planning, approach and response to a financial downturn.

You will be able to:

  1. Identify early warning signs (financial and non financial) of solvency concerns.
  2. Develop a business plan which addresses the identified causes of declining financial health with the objective of delivering a turnaround.
  3. Establish a communication plan with all stakeholders.
  4. Negotiate with and obtain key stakeholder support.
  5. Ensure director duties as they relate to insolvency are upheld and ensure positioning to have access to safe harbour.
Course expectations

What can you expect?

The focus of the course is on teamwork – working in groups as a simulated board. You will solve problems, devise recommendations and turnaround plans, and report back to the broader group.

This course is a full-day course. The participants will be allocated to a board group before the course and will spend the majority of the day working with their board on the activities of a hypothetical company experiencing financial difficulty. A facilitator will lead the discussion at the start and end of the day, and with the insolvency subject matter expert, provide expert guidance and support throughout the day.

Our facilitators are experienced company directors. They are selected based on their knowledge of the board environment as well as their ability to engage and connect with participants.

Participants are expected to have pre-read the course materials and case study prior to attending the course.
