On 18 August 2017, the AICD sent a letter to The Hon. Natasha Kate Fyles MLA, the Attorney-General, Minister for Justice, and Minister for Health in the Northern Territory, seeking a meeting to discuss director liability laws in the Territory.
In the letter, the AICD welcomes the Northern Territory Government’s commitment to support Territory businesses and jobs creation. However, the AICD also expresses concern that several legislative provisions in the Territory still deem directors and other officers of a company automatically liable for the criminal conduct of a corporation. The AICD believes that these kinds of provisions can impact on business and investment, and can result in unjust outcomes.
