Queensland - AICD Queensland Gold Medal Award

Ken MacDonald FAICD was recognised for his outstanding contribution to the Queensland business community as the recipient of the 2017 AICD QLD Gold Medal Award. Ken received the award from AICD Chairman Elizabeth Proust AO FAICD in front of industry and business leaders at a gala dinner on 28 September 2017.

Victoria - Not-for-Profit Directors’ Briefing

Victoria’s recent NFP Directors’ Briefing examined how NFP organisations can prepare for reputational crises, handle the crises as they happen and how to control the narrative. Vivienne Corcoran FAICD opened the session and discussed methods of preparing your organisation to withstand a reputational crisis. Vivienne covered topics including knowing your organisational culture, key media-friendly representatives, who to trust in a crisis and crisis response plans.

Michael Gorton AM FAICD then worked through the practical aspects of handling a reputational crisis utilising real life case study examples. Gerry McCusker MAICD provided concluding remarks, he emphasized the importance of managing the crisis narrative given the impact social media can have on organisational brand and reputation.

Tasmania - Gold Medal Award

This year’s Tasmanian Gold Medal Award winner is Lynn Mason who was awarded in recognition of her contribution to the Tasmanian community over an extended period spanning more than 40 years. This has encompassed a variety of initiatives that have had a direct and lasting impact on the well-being of a regional community, i.e. Flinders Island, and has extended to her wider roles and interests in local government, state government business enterprises and agriculture.

The Gold Medal lunch was held on Friday 20 October 2017 and is one of Tasmanian directors’ favourite networking events each year. AICD Tasmania will be hosting two final networking events for directors in Launceston and Hobart to celebrate all you’ve achieved in 2017, see the Tasmanian state page for details.

New South Wales - Essential Director Update: 17

On Monday 16 October, close to 2000 members gathered at the International Convention Centre in Darling Harbour for the annual Essential Director Update. Panellists included Governance and Communication Specialist David Shortland MAICD who spoke about the latest changes impacting director duties and responsibilities in the areas of governance, business and regulation.

International - Dubai International Company Directors Course

The AICD returned to Dubai for the first time since 2008, to deliver the flagship International Company Directors Course from 8 – 12 October 2017. Participants were immersed in the director mindset covering strategy, risk, directors duties, finance and culture. The International Company Directors Course provides a forum for directors to meet and discuss issues that exist in a global context, while exploring global case studies and real-life examples.
