The Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD) has announced that the winner of the 2021 Tasmanian Emerging Director Award is Launceston director Mark Baker.

Mr Baker started his career as a journalist and then editor at The Examiner, moving on to become Tasmania and South Australia Managing Editor at Australian Community Media.

In 2019 he moved to the Northern Tasmania Development Corporation and now sits on the boards of St Giles, the Launceston Chamber of Commerce, Clifford Craig Foundation at the National Automobile Museum of Tasmania.

Tasmanian/Victorian State Manager, Evan Dukas MAICD, said the Emerging Director Award is now in its third year and is awarded to a member of the AICD who has displayed commitment to professional development in the field of governance.

“Mark Baker is an accomplished board director who has demonstrated outstanding governance, strategy and risk awareness in his many board roles. I congratulate him on winning the 2021 Tasmanian Emerging Director Award.”

Mr Baker said he was honoured to receive this award from his peers.

“One of the most rewarding parts of this recognition is that it comes from people I deeply admire, many of whom have become lifelong mentors,” Mr Baker said.

“Over the years I have been fortunate to sit around various board tables where I have learned invaluable skills and developed professional relationships built on mutual trust and respect.”
