ASX 200 boards continue diversity push

The Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD) has today released the latest gender diversity statistics of Australia’s top 200 companies.

In December 2019, the AICD announced that the percentage of women on ASX 200 boards had reached 30 per cent for the first time.

The latest statistics reveal that, as at 31 January 2020, women held 30.7 per cent of board seats on the ASX 200.

AICD CEO and Managing Director, Angus Armour, said “As 2019 ended, we celebrated a milestone – for the first time women made up 30 per cent of board seats on the ASX 200. It is great to see that the momentum has continued so far this year.

“However, it is still the top Australian companies that lead the way on gender diversity.

“While 30 per cent women has been achieved at an aggregate level on ASX 200 boards, our research shows there are still 100 companies who have failed to reach the 30 per cent target. It is worth noting that 34 companies still only have one female director and six companies still have none.”

Group Female directorship (as at 31 Jan 2020)
ASX 20 36.1%
ASX 50 33.3%
ASX 100 31.8%
ASX 200 30.7%
ASX 300 28.2%
ASX All Ords 24.4%

30% Club Australia Chair, Nicola Wakefield Evans said, “Reaching our voluntary target of 30 per cent in December was a tremendous achievement.

“There is more work to be done though and the 30% club is now extending our focus on encouraging all individual boards in the ASX 300 to have a minimum of 30 per cent female directors as well.”

There were six companies on ASX 200 boards with no women on their boards as at 31 January 2020.
