140 not-for-profit scholarship winners revealed

Specifically designed for organisations with less than $2 million turnover, the scholarships will allow 20 recipients in each state and territory to undertake one of the AICD’s highly-regarded education programs, including the NFP Foundations of Directorship.

The AICD Not-for-Profit Scholarships program forms part of the AICD’s strong commitment to the NFP sector. Two-thirds of the AICD’s 43,000-strong membership play some role in the not-for-profit sector.

Scholarship recipients were chosen based on the expected benefits to the individual, their not-for-profit organisation and wider community.

Organisations represented in the list of scholarship recipients range from the Children’s Tumour Foundation to the Affordable Housing Charity Ltd, to the Australian Indigenous Doctors Association to Landcare Tasmania.

One successful recipient, Eliza Bergin, a barrister on the board of Refugee Advocacy Service of South Australia, says the scholarship will help her serve the community.

“I believe in giving back to the community and have always done pro bono work during my career. I am looking forward to developing my leadership capabilities and knowledge of governance.”

AICD Managing Director & CEO Angus Armour congratulated the successful recipients and wished them well in their studies.

“NFPs are an essential part of Australia’s social fabric, and good governance remains critically important to helping the sector fulfil this role,” he said.

“NFPs face a number of challenges, especially as many operate with tight budgets and in an increasingly complex and constantly evolving operating environment. Having the governance expertise to steer them to success cannot be taken for granted.

“These scholarships are a valuable opportunity for those in the NFP sector to enhance their governance skills, and in turn help their not-for-profits support the community.

“We were overwhelmed with high-quality applications and I’d like to thank all those who took the time to apply.”
