Eduard Haegel MAICD

Asset President, BHP Nickel West

Eduard Haegel was appointed to the role of Nickel West Asset Present in March 2015.

Prior to this and from January 2011, Eddy was Vice President Production Mines for BHPB Iron Ore. From 2006, Eddy was the COO and Asset Lead for BHP Billiton Hunter Valley Energy Coal and was a member of the Energy Coal EXCO.

His earlier experience was spent in BHP Billiton Mitsubishi Alliance (BMA), where from 1987 he held a variety of engineering, operational, maintenance and business improvement roles culminating in his appointment to the General Manager Norwich Park.

Eduard’s commercial, technical and operational experience of open cut mining spans 25 years and 4 commodities.

Eduard has a First Class Honours degree in Mining Engineering from the University of Queensland and has also completed the Advanced Management Program at the Harvard Business School in Boston.

BHP Billiton Nickel West are a fully integrated mine-to-market nickel business, with all operations - including mines, concentrators, a smelter and a refinery – located in WA.

With such extensive operations making a significant contribution to the state’s mining and resources sector, the company have faced a number of challenges with the highs and lows experienced by the sector in the past few years.

Nickel West have been forced to not only change the way they operate as a whole, but also re-imagine the future of their extensive operations and implement new and innovative ways to unlock resource potential.
