It also gives those who have attended the Company Directors Course but have not yet completed the assessment an opportunity to do so.

The course provides a refresher to the material in the Company Directors Course as well as incorporating the latest developments in governance best practice for directors.

Upon completion of this course you will be equipped to:

  • Identify the new challenges and opportunities currently unfolding for directors and officers
  • Consider the latest governance processes, relations and structuring at board level
  • Understand your current personal, legal and performance obligations as a director
  • Refine your questioning skills when assessing management reports and proposals
  • Review strategic decision-making based on a company’s financial, strategic and risk profile

What can you expect?

The course is similar in methodology to the Company Directors Course involving case studies, workshops and discussions with your fellow professionals on the course across seven modules.

The Company Directors Course Update is designed to provide you with updates to the critical areas of change for directors. As this course is an update not every Module from the Company Directors Course is included. The Company Directors Course Update covers the following Company Directors Course Modules:

  1. The Role of the Board and the Practice of Directorship

    The general overview of corporate governance including the main functions and the responsibilities of the board.

  2. Directors’ Duties and Responsibilities

    Outlines the key responsibilities of directors in private, public and not-for-profit organisations, it also examines the Corporations Act in detail.

  3. The Board's Legal Requirement

    Identifies the current personal, legal and performance obligations as a director.

  4. Risk: Issues for Directors

    Examines the board’s role in developing a risk culture appropriate to the business and overseeing risk management to ensure improved performance.

  5. Strategy: The Board’s Role

    Discusses the board’s role in developing and executing strategy.

  6. Achieving Board Effectiveness

    Discusses the good practices of effective boards, including composition and skills mix, the undertaking of board reviews and how boards can add value to global organisations.

  7. Learning into Practice

    A case study approach linking the information from the previous modules and providing opportunities to contribute to productive boardroom discussions.

Assessment award

Assessments and recognition

Upon successful completion of the Company Directors Course Update assignment and examination you will receive the Company Directors Course Award.

You will accrue 20 DPD units for completing the course, and an additional 10 DPD units for successfully completing the assessment.

Financial members may also gain the use of the GAICD graduate post nominal. Fellows retain their FAICD post-nominal.
