On 17 September 2021 the AICD made a submission to the Senate Finance and Public Administration Committee review of the CATSI Act Amendment Bill 2021.
The AICD endorsed certain elements of the Bill that promote the purpose of the CATSI Act, particularly those that provide a flexible legislative framework that accommodates specific cultural practices and allow for self-determination. However, AICD stakeholder engagement highlighted that certain amendments risk adding a level of complexity, compliance and regulation to CATSI corporations that is unnecessary and out of step with the purpose of the legislation.
